Pride and Prejudice
Outline
In pride and prejudice the Bennett family is very dysfunctional. A dysfunctional family is a family where there is conflict and disregard for the others. Mr.Bennett is particularly inconsiderate of the women in his family. He loves to make fun of them and shows no concern for Lydia's well being when she wanders off and engages in mischief. He sees the members of his family as items for amusement rather than showing true love and care for his children and wife. Similarly Mrs.Bennett sees her children as means to climb the social latter. All she cares about is reputation and money. While one may argue that she simply wants the best for her children, her view of "the best" is categorized by material achievements. Rather than wanting her daughters to be happy, her only concern is that they marry into money.
