Intro paragraph
While Darcy clearly has the upper hand when looking at his social status and gender, Elizabeth's feisty attitude gives her more power in regards to their relationship. Pride and Prejudice takes place in a time where class and gender meant everything. Woman were to be married off and typically would not get more that one offer of marriage in a lifetime. While woman in the 21st century do not need to marry a man to provide themselves with economic stability, in the time in which this book takes place woman were required to find a wealthy husband in order to live a decent life. Elizabeth's quest for love makes her particularly intriguing to Mr.Darcy. Her desire to marry a man who she loves however, is not typical for a woman of her time. Although Elizabeth is socially viewed as inferior to Mr. Darcy, her self respect and bold personality giver her the advantage in their controversial romance.
